Senior Citizen Holiday Gala ~ December 3

The Rotary Club of Caroline was chartered in 1998 by a group of dedicated business and education leaders who saw Rotary as a way to give back to their community.

Since 1999, the Club has sponsored a Senior Gala the first Thursday each December for senior citizens who live in the county.  It features a warm meal, music, dancing and fellowship between the club members and youth from the Caroline High School with the seniors.  Attendance at the Gala has grown to over well over 500 since 1999.  The Club received a Presidential Citation Award in 2011 for this project and has been recognized numerous times for this annual event.

In support of education and literacy, the Club provides every third grader in the County with their own dictionary each September.  As a thank you to speakers at our meetings, they are asked to autograph children's books which are donated to the public library system in their honor. The Club also sponsors parenting classes in conjunction with Caroline Department of Social Services on Monday evenings every January, March, May, July, September and November in the Social Services Department offices.

Other local projects include quarterly road cleanups, sponsoring a Little League Baseball Team, providing refreshments for AARP meetings and participation in Career Fairs at the High School.

We are also involved in worldwide service projects including the fight to end polio and helped provide two large garden beds, a solar water heater, a garden shed, gardening tools and an irrigation system for Provo Children's Home in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands.

Since 2008, the Club has sponsored Wine Festivals as one of our major fundraisers.  Proceeds have been used to fund the purchase of a Seniors Shuttle Bus to be used for appointments, a shelter box to Tsunami -stricken Japan and scholarships for High School Students.  Another fundraiser is the Draw Down held in partnership with the Caroline County Agricultural Fair.

Our club meets every Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative in Bowling Green with the exception of third Thursday of September through May where we meet jointly with our Interact Club at the Caroline High School.  Our meetings feature speakers on a wide range of social, political and economic topics, and our members and guests come away with more knowledge than when they arrived as well as having had FUN!

If you are a person, young or old, who is interested in joining an organization that is actively working to provide a better quality of life for families and youth, please contact us so that we may introduce you to the Rotary Club of Caroline.
